Volunteer Round Up Time!

Part of being in the NE Campus Cornerstone Honors program is giving back to the community. Cornerstonians must volunteer twelve hours per semester. They can do this by volunteering on campus in the Writing Center, mentoring younger students, say, middle-schoolers, or creating projects on behalf of committees and faculty members. One such project is for the upcoming Women's History Month Wish List Drive for the Fort Worth Women's Center. Cornerstonians will decorate the boxes and maintain the donations.

To be a member of the Cornerstone Honors program takes more than a good GPA and leadership abilities. It takes a willingness to work and be part of a community by giving back to the community.

It also means having fun.

Coffeehouse Conversations!

Cornerstone frequently sponsors NE Texas artists, from writers to musicians, to bring creativity to our little part of Texas.

Tonight, Matt Willis from the Celtic rock band The Killdares will be our guest artist. He'll talk about what it's like to be a professional musician and performer, the music writing process, and he may even play some bagpipes for us.

Come by the Northeast campus Fine Arts building and meet a rock star!

NE Advisory Expo is Saturday!

TCCD's NE campus is hosting the "Rock Your Future" Advisory Expo from 10 am to 4 pm Saturday, October 21. The public can learn all about what the NE campus has to offer current and future students. Representatives from the various academic departments and programs will be on hand to answer questions.

Dual credit, distance learning and financial aid representatives will also be available. And of course Cornerstone students and faculty advisors will be on hand to recruit more Cornerstonians and answer any questions potential Cornerstonians may have.

And what's a faire without food and entertainment? That's right. The NE Advisory Expo will offer free hot dogs, chips, and drinks. The NE Campus Faculty/Student Jazz Band will perform and the art department will offer ceramics demonstrations. Students who participated in the English department's recent Poetry Jam will also perform. Plus, there will be a DJ spinning tunes.

Come by for information, food, entertainment and the chance to win door prizes!

News from the Frontlines

The Cornerstone faculty advisors and director met recently to lay the groundwork for Cornerstonian growth. We're recruiting more members, putting Cornerstonians in contact with the Writing Center for volunteer opportunities, and getting those interested in tutoring in contact with people who can help them begin tutoring. We're planning banquets and feasts and we've found out the District now offers tutor training for students interested in tutoring.

We've got an expo coming up where Cornerstone people will be available to talk about the program to interested people. And we're beginning to put together our first Coffeehouse Conversation event. So stay tuned for more updates!
